Welcome Letter

Dear Friends,

Welcome to our website!

On Sunday, June 10, 1923, the first public Mass was celebrated in the parish of St. Francis of Assisi on a table in the living room of a private home. There were about 25 parishioners who were able to squeeze into the limited space. In that year our parish was founded with 37 Catholic families and has grown today to 2,400 families that include approximately 7,600 people and a campus of several buildings.

Our parish grew from such humble beginnings by following the example of our patron Saint Francis of Assisi. United with his legacy of service to the poor was his deep love for the Eucharist that flowed into his prayer in the presence of the Blessed Sacrament. Our parish mission statement reflects this: “The mission of Saint Francis of Assist Parish in Springfield PA is to be disciples. Centered in the Eucharist we are called to encounter, follow and imitate Jesus’ way of life through the humble example of our patron.”

We are called and challenged to experience the Eucharist as the center of our lives and worship. Together we strive to faithfully live the Gospel here in Springfield as one family united in Christ.

We are a vibrant community blessed with many organizations and activities. We invite you to learn more about us by navigating our website which contains information about our parish and the universal Church.

May you and your loved ones feel welcome and at home at Saint Francis of Assisi Church.

In Christ,
Father Matthew J. Tralies
Parochial Administrator
