Cluster 62
Description and Goals of Cluster
The parishes of Cluster 62 are Saint Andrew
the Apostle, Saint Bernadette, Saint Charles Borromeo and Saint
Dorothy in Drexel Hill, plus Holy Cross, Saint Francis of Assisi
and Saint Kevin in Springfield. The Cluster Pastoral Planning
Committee conducted the planning process; the Committee consisted
of two members from each Parish Pastoral Council, the pastor of
each parish and the Vicar for Delaware County.
Following are the cluster goals as determined
by the parishes through their representatives:
Goal 1. To evangelize the inactive, marginal
and disenchanted.
Reach out by use of media, neighborhood
gatherings, "Landings" program and Rite of Catholic
Initiation for Adults, educational efforts, personal invitations
and faith sharing, personal contact younger people, and opportunities
to serve those in need.
Goal 2. To develop a youth ministry to
the youth, young adult, and young married. Work
to generate interest in Life Teen Masses and meetings, youth liturgies,
prayer groups and youth retreats, pro-life youth groups, mentoring
and youth role models, service opportunities of youth and young
adults, spiritual growth opportunities, and social programs; also
utilize input f~ Newman Centers and youth
missionaries.
Goal 3. To develop adult education programs
which would include lay ministry and family ministry programs
and training.
Develop on-going education for parish
lay ministries; provide education in scripture, sacraments, morals,
Catholic/Christian values; educational homilies; parish mission/retreats;
guide parents to develop parenting skills; promote existing programs
at Cluster parishes and local colleges.
Goal 4. To strengthen commitment to Catholic
education.
Identify and promote strengths of
Catholic education; support voucher program; seek more finding
for school tuition; assist needy families with scholarships; include
programs for pre-school, day care, after school care and programs
for children with special needs; strengthen CCD program.
Goal 5. To inspire vocations and vocation
awareness.
Involve youth in visible ministry
roles; promote family role in encouraging vocations; increase
role of priests, seminarians and sisters as mentors to youth;
reach out to young adults.
Goal 6. To develop a social outreach
in the cluster to welcome and assimilate new populations into
the community and to assist special needs groups. Establish active welcoming conunittees and social
justice committees, assess special needs of parishioners, consider
parish nursing care, use existing resources where possible.
Goal 7. To design a position of cluster coordinator who would: a) assist the parishes in the sharing of resources, space, and facilities; and b) develop a means for ongoing cluster communication. Obtain paid, part-time coordinator; work with cluster parish representatives to identify cluster issues; communicate issues and activities to parishioners.
