This is to only a general guide to the Rite of Viaticum Outside of Mass. There are other options that the family and presider may choose for the different parts of the rite.

up Introductory Rite
Greeting
Celebrant:
The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ and the love of God and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all.
R. Amen.

Sprinkling with Holy Water
Celebrant:
The Lord is our shepherd and leads us to streams of living water.

Instruction
My brothers and sisters, before our Lord Jesus Christ passed from this world to return to the Father, he left us the sacrament of his body and blood. When the hour comes for us to pass from this life and join him, he strengthens us with this food for our journey and comforts us by this pledge of our resurrection.

Penitential Rite
My brothers and sisters, to prepare ourselves for this holy anointing, let us call to mind our sins.

After a brief period of silence, the penitential rite continues, using one of the following:

Lord Jesus, you healed the sick:
Lord have mercy.
R. Lord have mercy

Lord Jesus, you forgave sinners:
Christ have mercy.
R. Christ have mercy

Lord Jesus, you give us yourself to heal us and bring us strength:
Lord have mercy.
R. Lord have mercy

Apostolic Pardon (only done if the minister is a priest)
Through the holy mysteries of our redemption,
may almighty God release you from all punishments
in this life and in the life to come.

May he open to you the gates of paradise
and welcome you to everlasting joy.
R. Amen.

N., do you believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth?
R. I do.

Do you believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord
who was born of the Virgin Mary,
was crucified, died, and was buried,
rose from the dead,
and is now seated at the right hand of the Father?
R. I do.

Do you believe in the Holy Spirit,
the holy catholic Church, the communion of saints,
the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body,
and life everlasting?
R. I do.

Litany
My brothers and sisters, with one heart let us call on our Savior Jesus Christ.

You loved us to the very end and gave yourself over to death in order to give us life. For our brother/sister, Lord, we pray:
R. Lord, have mercy

You said to us: " All who eat my flesh and drink my blood will live for ever." For our brother/sister, Lord, we pray:
R. Lord, have mercy

You invite us to join in the banquet where pain and sorrow, sadness and separation will be no more. For our brother/sister, Lord, we pray:
R. Lord, have mercy
